New model A-36A Apache dive bomber - (Allison Engined Mustang bomber version) of the 27th FBG Pantelleria, Sicily and Italy. June 1943 through 1944. This plane had 190 mission markers running back along the fuselage!

The A36 A Apache was developed from the P51A Mustang. It was the USAAF's response to a need for a dive bomber perceived because of the early success of the German Stuka. The Army Air force bought 500 A-36's and three groups operated them with great succcess in combat. The 27th FBG, the 86th FBG, -both in Italy- and the 311th FBG in India/Burma.

This is a further development of my P51 A / Mustang 1A model. The P51A model was developed from work that was done by George Lekko, aka "Geo", to heavily modify the old PAW Mustang 3dz. His generosity in offering to modify the 3dz files to allow for a EAW style prop and transparent canopy, led to further refinements, such as the non-mirror effect, fixture of single insignia, and correct drop tank/bomb placement. Cord did the shadow file for the P51.

Claudio Wilches had done a 3 bladed prop A-36 conversion of the original EAW P51B, and I used his method for making a three blade prop from a four blade to make the nose for this A36. I added a new correct nose shape and spinner and changed the wing tips, oil cooler and rear deck shape slightly to more accurately capture the A-36A's shape. I also made the 27th FBG (Fighter Bomber Group) skin for the new model.

Claudio helped by making the new medium distance model, which now has a spinner and clear canopy.

To use, just copy and paste all .3dz and .tpc files into the EAW main directory.

Cheers

Captain Kurt
